Manchester, NH, Backpack DrivePeople First. It鈥檚 a core value at PC and defines how we act every day both on the jobsite and in the community. So, when PC Leadman William Crowley expressed an interest in getting involved in the community, our team jumped in to help make it happen. Will, a dedicated Manchester School District parent, came up with the idea of a backpack drive to provide backpacks and school supplies for local children in need. With Will leading the charge, we set off to organize the Seacoast region鈥檚 first backpack drive.

With support from PC鈥檚 employee owners and some locals, Will received donations to fill 35 backpacks plus additional supplies, all which were presented to the Manchester School Welcome Center. The center will distribute the backpacks to area children throughout the year.

鈥淭hese backpacks donated to our students will give them a confident, fresh start to the school year. We are incredibly grateful for the support of PC Construction and their entire team for stepping up and showing what community is all about.鈥?/p>

The 12th Annual Feed the Flock Gala brought together a crowd of 450 who helped raise over $100,000 to benefit The Corner Table.

In 2024, the Corner Table鈥檚 Community Kitchen program provided nearly 72,000 meals to those in need, with an additional 6,500 meals served through their Frozen Meal Program. While the organization is primarily committed to food hunger in North Carolina’s Catawba County, they have a wide variety of other programs tailored to the unique needs of the community 鈥?including housing, financial and medical assistance, vaccine clinics, and even free haircuts!

We are proud to have been a gold-level sponsor for this incredibly valuable community connection. Although the evening is over, our commitment to The Corner Table will continue throughout the year with members of our team committed to volunteering in the kitchen each month.

Vermont Construction Academy Launch Vermont Construction Academy LaunchI have been passionate about construction since I was a young boy. After completing high school, I was fortunate to be part of a training facility that gave me the foundation and basic skills to pursue a successful career in construction. After moving to Vermont and becoming embedded in the local construction landscape, I longed for a similar facility that would provide career paths and training to build Vermont鈥檚 next generation of trades men and women.

Monday that dream came true with the opening of the Vermont Construction Academy.

Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of working alongside so many incredible people, all who came together with a common vision. Now, as we begin enrollment for VCA鈥檚 Carpentry Boot Camp and Commercial Carpentry Apprenticeship, I am so excited to see those efforts come to fruition. Finally, we have a resource to provide post-high school hands-on training and certification to those interested in the trades. At the same time, this effort will help combat one of the biggest issues in this industry 鈥?the skilled labor shortage.

To my partners in crime, Ryan Ahern at ReArch Construction and Matt Musgrave at ABC NH/VT, thank you for bringing your insight and enthusiasm to this project every day. While the foundational work is now complete, I am proud to continue to lend my expertise on the VCA Board.

To all the young people out there who haven鈥檛 considered construction or don鈥檛 know how to get started, VCA might be the right fit for you! I am so excited to see what the future holds.

Western Carolina University visiting a PC Construction project siteLast week, we hosted a site tour for a class from Western Carolina University. The students’ courses currently focus on the areas of planning, equipment and project management, which made our large wastewater construction project the perfect place to see applicable action. The highlight of the tour was a deep excavation flanked by three cranes moving formwork, reinforcing steel and stone for backfill in addition to setting manhole sections for a vortex manhole.

We brought the group into the office trailer and conducted a Lean crash course to illustrate how the field team schedules upcoming work, inspections, and subcontractor collaboration using Nialli software and interactive smart boards. This provided a practical, hands-on application illustrating workflow navigation and effective field project management.

The students who attended the tour had great questions and positive feedback from the project visit, highlighting the importance of practical learning outside of the classroom and networking for their future construction career.

North Carolina Toy DriveI am so proud to be part of PC Construction鈥檚 team in North Carolina! The last few weeks have been a flurry of activity for myself and my fellow employee owners as we spearheaded a Hurricane Helene relief toy drive to spread cheer to the children of Western North Carolina.

In total, over $13,500 worth of gifts were gathered from PC employees, their families and our very generous trade partners and suppliers. All gifts were donated to the Black Mountain Home and Eliada.

The Black Mountain home had a landslide destroy all four of their recreational buildings, dining halls, and guest cabins. PC was one of several sponsors who provided gifts for the 63 children currently residing in the facility. While Eliada sustained much less damage, they currently have 467 children in their residence, ranging in age from newborn to 21 years. All children will receive two or three gifts from our donation alone, and we hope others participate to make this a Christmas they won鈥檛 forget!

Thank you to my fellow team members 鈥?Erica Baldwin, Erik Marshall, Bayden Wilson, Nick Swan and Joseph Berrigan 鈥?for jumping in to make this event a success. And a special thank you to all of our donors and partners who showed such kindness and generosity this holiday season, including but not limited to: Chinchor Electric, Beltway Paving, Universal Painting, WW Enroughty, Smart Electric, Cohrane Steel, Continental Fire & Sprinkler Company, Commercial Doors & Hardware, Womack Electric, Pleasant Mount Welding, Halliday Products, Inc., Lopez Rebar, American Layout & Land Surveying, LLC, Cardinal Building Systems, Noble Specialties, McDade Waterworks, Ferguson, Felker Brothers, Dixie Metals, Lake Electric, Fountain Electric, MB Haynes Electric, Llamas Coatings, Hickory Mechanical, Dickinson Hauling, Superior Mechanical, Piedmont Plumbing Group, Heyward of Charlotte, EW2 Environmental, Fortech, Revere Controls, Piedmont Automation.

Happy holidays from the North Carolina team!

PC Construction Team Fundraising for Travis Mills FoundationThis past Saturday, the Maine-based PC team and families once again came together at the Portland International Jetport to test our strength to benefit the Travis Mills Foundation. The task: pull an 80-ton Boeing 757 FedEx Jet 20 feet as fast as you can. The competition was fierce, and the PC Plane Pullers came in at the middle of the leaderboard with a pull of 8.1 seconds.

PC鈥檚 fundraising efforts took off strong and soared to the top. With generous support from family, friends and business partners, PC landed in fourth place among 30 teams for our fundraising efforts (all puns intended!).

The Travis Mills Foundation supports post-911 recalibrated veterans and their families overcome physical and emotional obstacles and strengthen their families through a variety of programs.聽In total, the plane pull raised close to $200,000 to help support the foundation.

Congratulations to all who came out and made this event such a success!

A team of 10 PC women from the Vermont region recently participated in Habitat for Humanity鈥檚 annual Women Build Week. This annual campaign focuses on bringing women together to build stronger communities. Women and children are the most likely to be affected by poor living conditions, and events like Women Build provide the opportunity for women to serve their communities while expanding their construction skills.

PC women from both operations and office roles spent the day working on a duplex build site in Burlington, Vermont. Women make up about 10% of the construction industry nationally, and at PC we are just above this average. It is not uncommon to be the only woman on a team or jobsite, so having a crew comprised completely of women was really exciting.

We worked with the affectionally self-named 鈥淕eezer Crew鈥?on this build. It was inspiring to work with a group of retirees who have become long-time volunteers for Habitat. Their passion for building and giving back was evident as they led our crew through several projects, including setting up scaffolding for a scheduled roofing crew, framing and roofing front porches, installing ZIP sheathing and various other tasks to progress the build. It was really exciting to see the progress that we made at the end of the day, and we look forward to participating in this event again next year!

Corporate Cup TeamLast Thursday, a team of 14 PC Construction employee owners participated in the 41st annual Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge, one of Vermont鈥檚 oldest and largest 5K races. The event brings over 2,000 Vermonters together in Montpelier to promote physical fitness in the workplace and at home.

We set out on the course on one of Vermont鈥檚 first warm (and very humid) spring evenings. This race is always different than most where the finish line isn鈥檛 necessarily a goal but a destination with time taken along the way to enjoy the company of our colleagues outside of work. This year, it especially satisfying to see our state capital bustling with activity after the devastating floods last summer.

Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy this year鈥檚 Corporate Cup. I, for one, am already looking forward to next year!

Last Wednesday, PC鈥檚 Atlanta-based team spent the workday a little differently than usual 鈥?at the home of longtime Atlanta residents, Jimmy and Annie Harris. Both now retired, their home has been a place of comfort and stability for nearly 40 years. With Jimmy facing an upcoming surgery that will limit his mobility, this family needed some essential changes to their home. PC teamed up with Rebuilding Together Atlanta to paint, complete minor repairs, and build a new ramp to ensure Jimmy鈥檚 safety and continued independence at home.

It was so rewarding for our crew to see the impact these changes would make on their lives. We will never forget their smiles and how truly grateful they were for the support during their time of need. I am also so thankful to work with such caring and supportive people at PC who didn鈥檛 hesitate to take the time out of their busy lives to give back to a family in need.

Rebuilding Together Atlanta is an incredible organization, and we are grateful for all they do for the community. For over 30 years, they鈥檝e been dedicated to making high-risk homes safe and healthy while helping low-income senior and veteran homeowners age safely in place. As a result, more than 1,000 homes in Atlanta neighborhoods have received needed renovations with the help of thousands of individuals who have donated their time, energy and talent.

This is just another example of how we are BUILDING STRONGER, TOGETHER every single day.

Food Bank Networking EventLast Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the Good Shepherd Food Bank (GSFB) annual Coffee & Collaboration event in Portland, Maine, with my fellow PC employee owner, Senior Project Manager Mark Donovan. This event gave us the opportunity to learn about the organization and how PC Construction can help meet their needs. Last fall, PC raised funds to benefit the GSFB, but decided we wanted to do more to serve our fellow Mainers in need. Between networking with other local businesses and chatting with members of the GSFB staff, we learned that the food bank distributed 33.6 million meals in 2023 and procured 3.6 million pounds of food locally to be distributed to food pantries around the state. Very impressive!

It was an honor to listen to a presentation from GSFB鈥檚 new president, Heather Paquette, and to discuss how our unique skills in the construction industry can help the organization on other levels.

The GSFB is a non-profit organization serving our community to help fight food insecurity throughout the State of Maine. Founded in 1981, their mission is to help eliminate hunger by providing access to nutritious and culturally relevant food for people in need, building strong community partnerships, and mobilizing the public in the fight to end hunger.

Today I had the extreme pleasure of presenting the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi with a retired PC truck to support their extensive food pantry operation.

The Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi is the longest continuous kinship-related Abenaki tribal community in the United States. One of the many services they provide is food assistance to ensure all Abenaki families have access to healthy and nutritious meals. Each month, they support over 500 clients in their communities and rely entirely on funding from grants and donations.

The truck donation will eliminate costs of transporting food donations, allowing more money to be directed to the food and products needed by the Abenaki community. But it also means something more than that to PC. John Lavoie, a longtime PC superintendent who is retiring in July after 45 years with the company, is also a member of the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi Tribal Board and is actively involved in the organization鈥檚 efforts. We are so proud to be able to support John鈥檚 heritage and passions with this donation 鈥?it is just a tiny token of our appreciation for his incredible work leading successful PC construction projects for over four decades!

鈥淚n our Native American tradition, we are taught to care for our community 鈥?our friends, family and neighbors 鈥?whether they are a member of our tribe or not,鈥?said Debbie Dubois Lavoie, manager of the food pantry (and John鈥檚 loving wife!). 鈥淲e share what we can as best as we can and with PC Construction鈥檚 help, we can continue our fight against food insecurity. Our hearts are full and now our shelves will be filled more efficiently and cost effectively. We are so grateful for PC鈥檚 generosity.鈥?/p>

PC Construction's Hike for Hope team photo.Last weekend, I joined my fellow New York teammates for a hike up Bear Mountain to raise awareness for suicide prevention. The Hike for Hope event, organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), raises funds to support research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

According to CDC data, the construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates in the United States. As leaders in the industry, it is important that we show our commitment to mental health awareness and support our employees, subcontractors and business partners who may be struggling.

This year鈥檚 Hike for Hope brought together over 400 participants and raised over $100,000 to support AFSP鈥檚 critical mission. It was truly incredible seeing so many people come together to spread hope and fight the stigma often associated with mental health issues. My family has suffered multiple losses from suicide so while I hiked for our industry and to support our community, I also hiked for my family.

Thank you to my PC teammates for joining in and to PC for sponsoring this important event.
