Anne Minor, PC Construction Senior Project ManagerAs part of聽PC Construction鈥檚 Innovation Week celebration, we鈥檙e shining a light on the incredible individuals across our company who are pushing boundaries, challenging norms and redefining what鈥檚 possible in construction. Today, I鈥檓 excited to spotlight Anne Minor, a senior project manager whose passion for innovation is transforming how we work, connect and build.

鈥淚nnovation, to me, is about questioning the everyday. It鈥檚 not just about making things easier, it鈥檚 about making them smarter,鈥?Anne shared. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about streamlining the mundane so we can focus our brainpower on what really matters: building better environments for our employees and communities. I鈥檓 grateful to be part of a company that doesn鈥檛 settle for just 鈥榟ow we鈥檝e always done it鈥? We always question if there鈥檚 a better way and that鈥檚 when I get excited 鈥?because there鈥檚 an opportunity to find a new solution.鈥?/p>

Anne鈥檚 motto?聽鈥淓verything can be figured out鈥?/strong>聽And that鈥檚 exactly what fuels her mind 鈥?always thinking of a strategy, a technology, a new way to make great things happen.

Creating a safe space for ideas, celebrating wins, and ensuring people feel supported are key. 鈥淚nnovation thrives in a culture of trust,鈥?said Anne. 鈥淭here are no stupid questions or ideas 鈥?everything should be on the table. When people feel safe and valued, innovation blooms.鈥?/p>

Two standout innovations Anne has helped implement are聽Takt Planning聽and聽Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX).

  • Takt Planning聽was introduced on projects to bring clarity, flow and improved communication with trade partners. It helped maintain high quality and coordination and gave early visibility into resource needs.
  • 4DX was used to manage a large, fast-paced project with many stakeholders. It helped the team focus on the聽wildly important聽(the schedule), track聽lead measures聽(daily impactful actions), use a聽scoreboard聽(e.g., punchlist progress), and foster聽accountability聽(daily safety walks, submittal tracking).

The result? A high-performing team where聽every member was promoted 鈥?a testament to the power of structured innovation.

When asked what innovation she would pursue next if she had unlimited resources, Anne said, 鈥淚鈥檇 run a project entirely off 3D models 鈥?no PDFs. It鈥檚 a more intuitive, effective way to build.鈥?/p>

Innovation isn鈥檛 just about tools or technology, it鈥檚 about people, purpose and progress. This spotlight reminds us that when we empower our teams, challenge the status quo, and stay open to new ideas, we don鈥檛 just build better projects鈥攚e build a better future.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of joining women from across Northeastern U.S. in Annapolis, Maryland, to connect and learn with one another at the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) Northeast Spring Forum.

Since the Vermont Chapter was only recently chartered in December 2023, this is the first forum we鈥檝e attended and I was fortunate to enjoy the event with our chapter president, Nicole Benton.

The welcome from all of the women in attendance was truly remarkable. NAWIC was founded to create a supportive community where women in construction can educate, develop, connect and thrive, and the women in this organization embody that mission to the fullest. Our time together was spent hearing from amazing keynote speakers such as Dr. Linda Singh, retired Major General, and NAWIC鈥檚 own Jenn Dewees, President of the Maryland Center for Construction Education & Innovation. We learned more about the barriers that women face in the construction industry and discussed lessons learned and strategies for supporting and advancing the incredible women with whom we work.

On top of all of that, we were able to spend time connecting with one another, making lasting relationships, and allowing space to discuss how, collectively, we can not only make construction a better place for women, but a better place for all genders.

Last night, PC Construction was one of 17 construction firms recognized nationally by the Construction Management Association of America with a Project Achievement Award. The award, presented for the One Spruce Peak project in Stowe, Vermont, highlights the 鈥渂est of the best鈥?projects that serve as examples of excellence and innovation in the construction industry. This is the fourth regional and national award recognition for this project.

The $46.5 million 125,000-square-foot One Spruce Peak boasts a collection of 27 ski-in/ski-out luxury residences, townhomes and penthouses at one of New England鈥檚 premier ski resorts. Units feature in-residence elevators, spacious balconies, sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows, and best-in-class materials and finishes. Rounding out the residences is a private pool, below-grade parking, locker rooms and ski storage.

Completed last year, PC鈥檚 team, in collaboration with more than 400 trade partner workers, developed an unconventional phased-delivery approach that challenged construction logistics and methods, a true collaborative effort that led to outstanding project success.

WomenOn Tuesday, I was proud to be part of a team of PC women that joined forces with Habitat for Humanity for Women Build 2023. The group 鈥?which included professionals from our office, our project management teams, and our craft workforce 鈥?took a break from their PC Construction responsibilities for the day to help construct a house in Colchester, Vermont. From framing, prepping for roof insulation and setting backer board to installing deck railings and windows, great progress was made, bringing this house one step closer to move-in day for a family in need.

This is my third Women Build event and it is so rewarding. I enjoy coming together with my fellow women in construction teammates to put our skills to work for the greater good.

People with AwardThis afternoon, PC was recognized by the Construction Management Association of America鈥檚 New England Chapter with a Project Achievement Award for the One Spruce Peak project in Stowe, Vermont. The Project Achievement Awards highlight the 鈥渂est of the best鈥?projects that serve as an example in the construction industry and are true pinnacles of excellence and innovation.

Completed last year, the $46.5 million 125,000-square-foot One Spruce Peak boasts a collection of 27 ski-in/ski-out luxury residences, townhomes and penthouses at one of New England鈥檚 premier ski resorts. Rounding out the residences is a private pool, below-grade parking, locker rooms and ski storage.

This project was so incredibly special for me. I had a great team 鈥?from the owner whom we have worked with over the past 15 years to the PC project management staff, our self-perform craftworkers, and over 400 trade partner workers. We had our fair share of challenges, but we collaboratively developed an unconventional phased-delivery approach that challenged construction logistics and methods to successfully complete the project 鈥?and we did it all with zero safety incidents and a 0.0 incident rate! To have this project recognized now with three prestigious industry awards is just a feather in our cap!

PC-Conference-1

PC Construction recently held their Employee Leadership Conference 鈥?a gathering of the company鈥檚 leadership group 鈥?in Burlington, VT. It has been 30 months since the last conference and the sheer volume of employee owners in the room was a testament to the growth PC has experienced during that time.

I am a member of PC Construction鈥檚 Leadership Development Program (LDP), a program focused on providing on-the-job experiences related to field, office engineering, scheduling, and estimating. Many of the company鈥檚 leaders got their start in this very program. So it was exciting when we were offered the opportunity to send two members of our LDP group to attend the conference and report back our experiences. As office engineers early in our careers, it was an intimidating and experienced group to spend a few days with but it was such an amazing opportunity.

Over the course of the conference topics of discussion included Value Added Safety, Lean Construction, Feedback and Coaching for Successful Development, and Trust. Through workshops and presentations, we learned and discussed what each of these mean to us as individuals and what they mean to PC Construction as a company.

PC Construction is trending in a very positive direction for growth and learning. The purpose of the conference, as well as the LDP and all our other programs, is to create an atmosphere for learning and the tools to succeed for all of our employee owners so we can thrive as individuals and a company. This is true and evident in that these topics and discussions did not end when it was time to go home on Saturday. These are the building blocks that everyone has taken back to their everyday work in an effort to make PC Construction a company where we all thrive, personally, professionally and financially.
