On Wednesday, PC joined the City of Lynchburg and local officials to celebrate the official ribbon cutting for the Combined Sewer Overflow Reduction Improvements project at the Lynchburg WWTP. The $44.5 million project was completed under a CMAR contract and is part of Lynchburg鈥檚 Long Term Control Plan to address 132 overflow points within the sewer system.

The project will reduce the sewage and stormwater discharge into the James River from 1 billion gallons to 69 million gallons annually while increasing the facility鈥檚 wet weather pumping capacity to 76 mgd. The improvements include a new 4-mg wet weather storage facility, backup generator, conversion of a clarifier to a high strength wastewater storage tank, and electrical building switchgear upgrade. Headworks upgrades include new pumps, screens, grit facility and electrical room. Work also included pump, piping and electrical upgrades to the primary sludge pump station and an upgrade to the CSO isolation gate to remove waste from outfall during wet weather events.
